Chinese Doctors Involved in Cambodian Organ Trafficking Scheme

An organ trafficking ring operating out of a Cambodian military hospital was broken up in August, as Cambodian police made nine arrests, including at least one Chinese doctor and professor who acted as a consultant and trainer for the group.

State-led organ harvesting is common in the People’s Republic of China, especially involving military hospitals, but until now has remained confined to the PRC.

“This isn’t the exact China model of organ harvesting spreading to other countries—it’s not going that far,” said Dr. Torsten Trey, the executive director of Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting, a medical advocacy group based in Washington, D.C. “However, it seems that there is a systematic approach to foster organ trafficking in areas where there was no organ trafficking before.”

The Chinese doctor who was scooped up in the raid was there training local doctors in organ transplants—a practice that in China primarily targets death row prisoners and prisoners of conscience, researchers said.

Unbelievable! Over 2,500 Signatures from a City in China!

Between February and June 2014, 2,595 people in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, and surrounding areas signed a petition denouncing these crimes, and demanding that the organ harvesting be stopped.

One woman was enraged after hearing about the atrocity, “The CCP is killing people! Who wouldn’t sign the petition to stop it? I am signing it!” She also brought 14 of her relatives to sign the petition.

A government employee was angry after seeing a picture depicting the live organ harvesting, “I can’t believe that in a country that boasts itself as a ‘socialist spiritual civilization’ and ‘harmonious society,’ such inhumane crimes can be happening. Anyone with a conscience should ask for justice. I am signing the petition.”

A person visiting from a nearby county said as he signed, “The Party is so evil. It ruined my whole life. During the ‘land reform,’ my family was put in the ‘rich peasant’ category and has suffered ever since.”

The lady who brought 14 relatives to sign the petition was very happy. Her sister-in-law had had cirrhosis and stomach bleeding. She frequently went to hospitals and had just had surgery in Beijing.

Kidney Stone Removal Becomes Kidney Removal in China

A Chinese woman in Shenzhen City recently went to hospital for what she thought was a small surgery: to remove kidney stones. During the surgery, however, doctors told her that her left kidney must be removed for her to survive. After she sought an explanation for what was going on, she was reportedly told “we’ll compensate you as much as necessary.”

The 32 year-old Wei Jianmin was diagnosed with kidney stones on Aug. 24 in Guangsheng Hospital, in Shenzhen, according to the state-run Yangcheng Evening News. After learning from a doctor that surgery to remove the stones is minimally invasive and only costs 800 yuan ($130), she opted to do it right away.

By 2 p.m. the same day she was in an operating room.

She awoke from anesthesia at around 7 p.m., still lying on the operating table. At around 9 p.m, a group of doctors and nurses came in and drew some blood. They then came back and said that needed to take out her left kidney.

“The doctor told me that it’s a must to remove the kidney, otherwise I won’t survive until tomorrow,” Wei recounted, in interviews in the Chinese press.

Hospital in China’s South Was Awash With Organs

Throughout the 1980s, Chinese authorities ran a secret hospital at the base of Baiyun Mountain in China’s south, where death row prisoners were executed and their organs made available for transplant into the bodies of overseas Chinese, according to the testimony of a former official.

The former official, identified by the alias of “Mr. Wang,” recently spoke to Epoch Times in New York about his experiences and knowledge. As a former cadre in the Guangdong Province Returned Overseas Chinese Association, he had opportunity both to visit the hospital and speak to those who had worked and stayed there as patients.

Overseas Chinese Associations are groups, often attached to the Chinese regime, that the Communist Party may use to penetrate and manage the Chinese population overseas, ensuring that they maintain a patriotic stance toward the regime. This is a mission that has been part of the regime’s activities for decades.

The All China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese is directly under the control of the Party. On its website it calls itself “a link between the party and government to overseas Chinese, their family, and returned Chinese.”

China’s Transplant Officials Seem to Preempt Book’s Critique

Days after the publication of a new book on state-run organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience in China, Chinese authorities have published a flurry of articles, statements, and claims—some of them contradictory—decrying organ trafficking rings, affirming the commitment to no longer using prisoners of conscience, and sternly noting the illegality of organ trading for profit.

It is unclear whether the bout of recent reports from China was a response to The Slaughter, written by American investigative journalist Ethan Gutmann, and published on Aug. 12, or whether the timing was mere coincidence. But Chinese official propaganda has exhibited similar patterns previously.

Defending the System

At a Aug. 16 hospital conference in Beijing, Huang Jiefu, the former vice minister for health and now the head of the China Organ Transplant Committee, managed to combine Party leader Xi Jinping’s theory of the “China dream” with hoped-for improvements in the Chinese organ transplant system.

He was paraphrased to say: “When the China dream is realized, there absolutely will not be people holding others captive to transplant their kidneys, doctors won’t do organ trading, and organs from the judicial system will not be the only source of organs. At that time, voluntary donors who die will be the only organ source.”

Jiang Zemin at Bay in Shanghai

Jiang Zemin’s days are numbered. The man who dominated Chinese politics for more than two decades is now being investigated in his own backyard, the city of Shanghai.

That Communist Party leader Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption investigation team has set up shop in Shanghai has been widely reported. The tell that the investigation is proceeding in earnest appeared in a brief notice on Aug. 11 on the official website of the Shanghai Procuratorate, the department responsible for investigating and prosecuting crime.

The very successful businessman Wang Zongnan, the chairman of the Bright Food Group, was arrested for bribery and embezzlement. Those are the crimes that Wang will be tried for, but his real offense is his close connection to former Chinese Communist Party head Jiang Zemin, and Jiang’s son, Jiang Mianheng.

Shanghai was the launching pad for Jiang Zemin’s national political ambitions and has formed the base of his power.

Journalists and Doctors Further Expose and Condemn Organ Harvesting in China

Forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners has gained more and more attention from journalists, doctors, and human rights activists, as a result of practitioners’ persistent grassroots efforts to raise the awareness. Exposés of this crime against humanity have recently appeared in a new book, and in articles in American Journal of Transplantation and New York Post.

Reports on Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official newspapers have also published contents that pointed to organ harvesting committed by Zhu Yunsong, former deputy director of the Kidney Department at the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region. Zhu was arrested at the end of July for “organ transplant abuse.”

An August 9 article titled “China’s Long History of Harvesting Organs from Living Political Foes” in New York Post reviews the decades-long malpractice of live organ harvest from executed prisoners and Falun Gong practitioners.

The article quotes Ethan Gutmann, who recently published a new book The Slaughter: Mass Killings, Organ Harvesting, and China’s Secret Solution to Its Dissident Problem, that organ harvesting in still going on in China.

Face The Slaughter

BY NATIONAL REVIEW

TEN years ago, Ethan Gutmann wrote a book called “Losing the New China: A Story of American Commerce, Desire, and Betrayal.” It was about the sordid relationship between the American business community and the Chinese Communist Party. Our businessmen accommodate themselves to the CCP, and turn a blind eye to persecution. Sometimes they even abet this persecution: as when Cisco and other technology companies devised special ways to monitor and arrest Falun Gong practitioners. Reviewing Gutmann’s book in these pages, I said, “Every once in a while comes a book to stir your slumber, and this is one.”

Gutmann’s new book, The Slaughter, should prevent sleep altogether. It is a stark title, for a stark reality.

The book is about Falun Gong and its practitioners, and the CCP’s relentless persecution of them. Falun Gong is a religion or spiritual philosophy or “mind–body system.” It has its roots in Buddhism and qigong (a relative of yoga). In other words, it is very Chinese — unlike Marxism-Leninism (and Maoism). Its leading tenets are “Truth, Compassion, Forbearance.” The practitioners have had a lot to forbear.

China’s long history of harvesting organs from living political foes

Enver Tohti was a surgeon in a hospital in Xinjiang, in the northwestern part of China, when, in June 1995, he was instructed by his superior to prepare for an adventure — surgery in the field.

In the morning, when the doctor and his team arrived at their destination, he realized they were at “the Western Mountain Execution Grounds, which specialized in killing political dissidents.”

“When you hear a gunshot, drive around the hill,” he was told.

He asked why they were there.

“You don’t want to know.”

After the shot rang out, he drove where he was told, and saw “10, maybe 20, bodies lying at the base of the hill.” The police led him to one in particular, a man of “about 30 dressed in navy blue overalls,” and told him that this is the man Tohti would be operating on.

Organ Transplantation Doctor Arrested in China (Video)

Recently, the crime of organ harvesting from live Falun Gong practitioners has been watched by the international community. The 2014 World Transplant Congress (WTC) was just held in San Francisco between July 26 and 31. The organizer rejected 35 Chinese participants on the grounds of medical ethical.

According to the US Minghui website report on August 1, a Chinese organ transplantation doctor mentioned in the book, Bloody Harvest was arrested a week ago by authorities. Another transplant doctor Wang Haibo, who is also an official of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Health Ministry, was temporarily absent for no reason.

The report said, Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas revealed at the WTC on July 29, the arrested doctor Zhu Yunsong worked in a major hospital and engaged in organ transplantation for many years, authoring numerous articles. The Chinese authorities arrested him on charges of abuse of organ transplantation. Matas said that Zhu admitted himself that he participated in transplantation operation using organs from Falun Gong practitioners.

In China, President of Hospital Tied to Organ Harvesting Investigated

The president of a hospital in northeastern China’s Jilin Province that has been reported as practicing forced, live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners has been targeted by the Chinese Communist Party’s disciplinary body.

On Aug. 3 the Central Commission Of Discipline Inspection announced that Wang Guanjun, president of The First Hospital Of Jilin University, member of the Party Standing Committee of Jilin University, vice president of Jilin University, and president of Norman Bethune Health Science Center of Jilin University, was under investigation for “serious violations of discipline and law.”

Besides Wang, at least 12 university leaders have been investigated by Party Central this year, and one third of them are from medical universities, according to the state-run Beijing Youth Daily.

The paper reports these 12 investigations as part of the ongoing anti-corruption campaign sweeping through the CCP, and the investigation of Wang will also likely be treated as part of that campaign.

Investigation Leads: Evidence of Forced Organ Harvesting in Handan City

The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) crime of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners is unprecedented in human history and has been called, “a new form of evil yet to be seen on this planet.”

Since March 2006 when it was first reported that the CCP was harvesting organs from persecuted Falun Gong practitioners and cremating the bodies to destroy the evidence in Sujiatun, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, Falun Gong practitioners in Handan City began their own investigation. It is now believed that such crimes have also taken place in Handan. The following are some investigation leads:

Evidence That the 285 Military Hospital Air-Raid Shelter Detained a Large Number of Practitioners Who Were Used As a Living Bank of Organ Donors

In early June 2006, witnesses saw eight army vehicles, including two ambulances, drive to the 285 Military Hospital from China National Highway 309. Unlike regular ambulances, the ambulances in this convoy were heavily armored. Even more unusual, there was a vehicle at the back with a very large chimney, and the vehicle’s siren sounded quite different from local ambulances.

Participants at the World Transplant Congress Speak Out About Organ Harvesting

San Francisco—At the World Transplant Congress held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from July 26 to 31, experts from all over the world came to share their latest research and mingle with the best minds in the field. Among the topics of conversation: how the work of saving lives through transplantation is being used to take lives in China.

Professor Jacob Lavee, director of the Heart Transplantation Unit at Israel’s largest medical center and a member of the human rights group Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting (DAFOH), spoke at the conference with Epoch Times about the practice in China of harvesting organs from prisoners of conscience—particularly those who practice the spiritual discipline Falun Gong, which is banned in China.

Transplant Scheduled Two Weeks in Advance

Lavee first became aware of the issue in 2005.

“A patient of mine who had waited for almost a year on top priority list for a heart transplant came to me one day and told me that his insurance company told him to go to China.”

Leading Transplant Doctor in China Mentioned in ‘Transplant Abuse’ Case

China+Organ+Transplant+11-630x450By Epoch Times

Media reports in China about a court sentencing 12 people for “organ transplant abuse” have in them a riddle. An important figure in China’s medical establishment known to be involved in the forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners is mentioned as the key figure in the transplant ring, but the reports don’t say that he was among those sentenced.

The Qingshanhu District People’s Court in Nanchang City of southeastern China’s Jiangxi Province sentenced 12 people up to nine and a half years in prison, for illegally selling human organs in an organized manner, according to a Xinhua report on July 26.

The state-run Legal Daily said that the deputy director of kidney transplantation at the Guangzhou General Hospital, Zhu Yunsong, played an important role in this illegal organ trafficking ring, but Zhu was not mentioned as one of those sentenced.

The organ trafficking group brought to justice this week started its illegal business in early 2011, after Zhu promised to purchase organs from the group, the report said.

House Panel Calls on China to End Organ Harvesting

jfjjfBy

WASHINGTON—On Wednesday the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee endorsed a resolution calling on China to immediately end what it calls state-sanctioned harvesting of human organs from prisoners.

Human rights groups have long criticized China for taking organs from executed prisoners, the source of most transplanted organs.

The resolution, which now goes to the full House, contends there are “persistent and credible reports” of state-sanctioned organ harvesting from nonconsenting prisoners including large numbers from the Falun Gong meditation practice and members of other religious and ethnic minority groups. China banned Falun Gong in 1999.

The resolution also calls for a State Department investigation into transplant practices in China.

“A Shame for Mankind”: World Transplant Congress Attendees Condemn Organ Harvesting in China

The science of organ transplants is supposed to help save people, but not in China. Under communist rule, organ harvesting has been used as an extreme measure to eradicate and profit from Falun Gong practitioners. They are killed and their organs harvested on demand for “organ tourism” patients.

Attendees of the World Transplant Congress at San Francisco’s Moscone West Convention Center are being apprised of this ongoing crime against humanity, as they convene and share the latest in the industry.

“Help to Stop Forced Organ Harvesting in China,” the Falun Gong banner announced to the 7,000 specialists attending the conference. Many of them signed the petition, calling for a thorough investigation and an end to forced organ harvesting in China.

Dr. Broumand, a kidney transplant expert from Iran, said that organ harvesting is immoral and in violation of the Declaration of Istanbul of 2008, which provides ethical guidelines for practices in organ donation and transplantation.

Speakers Expose the Transplants That Take Lives

Doctors from around the world met in San Francisco for the World Transplant Congress held at Moscone Center West July 26–31.

The meetings and discussions inside the hall focus on complex medical procedures and the collaboration of doctors around the world.

Meanwhile, outside on the sidewalk, there was a protest for human rights.

Falun Gong practitioners came from around the Bay Area to protest forced organ harvesting in China. They hope the Transplant Society will employ more effective methods and active steps to end the killing of Falun Gong practitioners, whose organs are involuntarily removed and sold for profit to transplant patients, a scheme first uncovered in 2006.

“There are several victims here who have narrowly escaped China’s notorious labor camps, and who were potential victims of forced organ harvesting,” said Alicia Zhao, coordinator of a press event on Tuesday morning in front of the Moscone Center.

“Most of them tell the stories of having blood being drawn regularly while in detention. We all know this was not done out of a humanitarian reason, as they were tortured on a regular basis, and some to death,” she said.

New Book Exposes Inhuman Sexual Torture in Masanjia Labor Camp

Vaginal Coma, a new book revealing the brutal sexual torture of female Falun Gong practitioners and petitioners detained in Masanjia Labor Camp in China, was published in Hong Kong on July 21.

The book is by former New York Times photojournalist Du Bin. In May 2013 he released in Hong Kong a documentary film on the same topic, Above the Ghosts’ Heads: The Women of Masanjia Labor Camp. In 2011 Du published the book Toothbrush in 2011 in Taiwan on the torture of Falun Gong practitioners.

“As a human being, there’s no reason or excuse to tolerate the atrocities that happened in ‘Masanjia Women’s Labor Camp,’ including the long-time use of a uterine dilator for tube feeding women, making women lie in their own waste, tying up several toothbrushes and twisting them in women’s vaginas, putting pepper powder in women’s vaginas, shocking women’s breasts and vaginas with electric batons, and putting women into male cells …” the author Duwrote on twitter after the release of the book.

World Remembers Persecution of Falun Gong and Harvesting of Practitioners’ Vital Organs

LOS ANGELES—Over 150 Falun Gong practitioners gathered opposite the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles on July 20 to commemorate the persecution that began 15 years ago and demand the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) cease its atrocities against the practice.

Dr. Yingnian Wu, a professor at UCLA and spokesperson for Falun Gong practitioners in the greater LA area, addressed the group regarding a general misunderstanding that an appeal by Falun Gong practitioners in China on April 25, 1999, caused the persecution. He discussed how the CCP had already been harassing Falun Gong practitioners for some time, while having agencies undermine the practice publicly.

From 1992, when Falun Gong—a spiritual discipline based on truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance—was first brought to the public, to 1999, it grew in popularity, gaining support from officials and scholars alike. Mr. Li Hongzi, the founder of the practice, had even received various awards from official agencies. However, in the background, an infiltration was ordered by Jiang Zemin, the former top leader of China. The secret agents revealed no negative aspects of the practice. In fact, they praised its effects on the health and well being of the people.

Zemin, however, was not satisfied. He ordered various professionals of different disciplines to attack the practice’s philosophy and health benefits and have those published through various public means—a strong turn from the previously supportive stance the CCP took in declaring the Falun Gong practice to be a benefit to the people before 1999.

Chinese Police Forcibly Blood-Type Citizens for Illegal Organ Bank

Police burst into homes to take blood or DNA samples from Falun Gong practitioners.

Police across China are rounding up Falun Gong practitioners and forcing them to give blood samples in order to set up a DNA database, said a report published last week on the Minghui website. The police are believed to be doing the testing in order to expand the list of potential donors whose organs may be taken for forced harvesting.

Minghui is a clearinghouse for reports by Falun Gong practitioners about the persecution they suffer in China. A July 19 article lists over 25 incidents, some involving as many as 10 practitioners, in Liaoning, Guizhou, Hebei, and Hunan provinces, as well as in Beijing. These provinces are dispersed geographically, stretching from the far northeast of the country to the southwest.

In a typical incident, Falun Gong practitioners report police breaking into their homes and extracting blood against their will, sometimes forcibly.

An investigation in 2006 into forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners by international human rights lawyer David Matas and the Canadian M.P. David Kilgour uncovered how practitioners held in labor camps were selected by authorities for the drawing of blood and other tests. Kilgour and Matas’s report was later published as the book Bloody Harvest.
